Unit Converter

This free unit converter handles the six measurement families of everyday life: length, weight, area, volume, data size and temperature.

How to use

  1. Choose a measurement category: length, weight, area, volume, data size or temperature.
  2. Pick the unit you are converting from and the unit you are converting to.
  3. Type the value — the converted result appears instantly on every keystroke.
  4. Switch categories at any time; the unit lists update automatically to the new family.

Frequently asked questions

What formula does the converter use?

For factor-based categories it converts through the base unit: result = v × factor(from) / factor(to). Example: 5 feet to centimeters = 5 × 0.3048 / 0.01 = 152.4 cm. All factors come from international definitions, so an inch is exactly 2.54 cm and a pound exactly 453.59237 g.

How is temperature converted?

Temperature scales have different zero points, so they cannot use simple multiplication factors. The tool converts through Celsius with the real offset formulas: F = C × 9/5 + 32, C = (F − 32) × 5/9, K = C + 273.15, and Rankine from Fahrenheit. That is why 0 °C correctly becomes 273.15 K, not 0.

Is 1 KB 1000 or 1024 bytes here?

This converter uses the decimal (SI) convention: 1 KB = 1000 B, 1 MB = 1000 KB, and so on — the same convention used by drive manufacturers and network speeds. For the binary convention (1 KiB = 1024 B), memory-style measurements, the factor differs by about 2.4% per step.

Are the volume units US or imperial?

Volume uses US customary units: 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 liters. The older imperial gallon (about 4.546 liters) is a different unit and is not mixed in, so US recipes and fuel figures convert correctly.

Do you store the values I convert?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded, stored or logged. Close the page and nothing remains.

About this tool

This free unit converter handles the six measurement families of everyday life: length, weight, area, volume, data size and temperature. Convert meters to feet, kilograms to pounds, hectares to acres, liters to US gallons, gigabytes to megabytes, or Celsius to Fahrenheit — pick a category, choose the two units and type a value; the answer updates on every keystroke. The conversions use exact internationally defined factors: an inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters, a pound is exactly 453.59237 grams, a mile is exactly 1609.344 meters, so results are precise rather than memorized approximations. Temperature is treated with the respect it deserves: because degrees carry an offset and not just a scale factor, the tool converts through real formulas such as F = C × 9/5 + 32 and K = C + 273.15 instead of pretending a ratio exists. Data size uses the decimal convention (1 KB = 1000 B), matching how drive and transfer speeds are marketed. Everything runs locally in your browser as you type — no uploads, no history kept — which makes it a safe quick reference for work documents and homework alike.
