Privacy Policy
Last updated:
HohoTools is operated by HohoTools (individual operator). In this policy, "HohoTools", "we", "us" and "our" refer to that operator and to the website hohotools.com.
The short version
- Your files never leave your device. Every tool on HohoTools runs entirely inside your browser. Files you process are not uploaded, not stored on any server, and never seen by us.
- No accounts. Using the tools requires no signup, no email address, no login.
- Cookieless analytics. Our own traffic measurement uses no cookies and cannot identify individuals.
- Ads involve third-party cookies. We plan to show ads served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to personalize the ads you see; you can opt out at any time (details in section 5).
- We do not sell personal data. We hold almost none to begin with.
The rest of this policy explains each point precisely, including the parts that involve third parties.
1. Your files never leave your device
This is the most important sentence in this policy, so we will back it up.
When you use any tool on HohoTools — compressing an image, merging PDFs, counting words — the processing is done by JavaScript and WebAssembly code running in your own browser, on your own computer or phone. Your file is read into the browser's memory, processed there, and written back to your device only when you choose to download the result.
At no point is your file transmitted to us or to any third party. This website has no upload endpoint, because the entire site is a static set of files: there is no server-side application to receive anything. We operate no storage, so there are no server-side copies of your data, no backups containing it, and no database that could leak it.
The honest corollary: because we never receive your files, we cannot recover them for you, either. Results exist only on your device. Keep your originals.
2. What we do not collect
- No account or profile — there is nothing to sign up for.
- No content — your files, images and text are never transmitted anywhere.
- No cookies of our own — HohoTools sets no cookies itself (section 6).
- No storage of user content — our tools do not write your content to localStorage, sessionStorage or cookies (section 7).
- No sale of data — we do not sell, rent or trade personal information, because we do not collect it.
3. Analytics
We measure overall site traffic with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics service: no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no individual profiles, and no attempt to identify visitors. Cloudflare collects aggregate metrics — page views, visits, referrers, country, browser and operating system — without cookies and without fingerprinting individual visitors.
We use this data for one purpose: understanding which tools are used and where things break, so we can fix and improve the site. Our analytics is not used for advertising, profiling, or selling anything to anyone.
4. Hosting and technical request data
HohoTools is a fully static website delivered by Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare automatically processes basic technical request data (such as your IP address and browser user agent) to deliver pages to you, cache content, and protect the site from abuse. We do not use this data to identify or profile visitors; this data is handled by Cloudflare under its own privacy policy.
5. Advertising and cookies (Google AdSense)
HohoTools is free, and advertising is how we plan to keep it that way. Ads are served through Google AdSense, which works as follows — and Google's policies require us to tell you exactly this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and/or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Depending on your choices and local rules, those cookies may be used to show personalized ads (based on your browsing history) or non-personalized ads.
You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time:
- via Google's Ads Settings: adssettings.google.com
- via the industry opt-out for third-party vendor cookies: www.aboutads.info
If you opt out or block ad cookies, you will still see ads — they simply will not be personalized to your browsing history.
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, personalized advertising is subject to consent requirements under local law: where consent is required, we show personalized ads only after consent has been obtained, and visitors who have not consented are served non-personalized ads.
Ad cookies are set and controlled by Google and its partners, not by us. We cannot read, manage or delete them on your behalf; use the links above or your browser settings.
6. Cookies we set ourselves
None. HohoTools itself does not set any cookies. Our analytics is cookieless (section 3). The only cookies you may encounter on this site come from third-party advertising (section 5), and whether they are stored is controlled by your browser settings and your choices with Google.
7. Local storage of your content
Our tools do not use localStorage, sessionStorage, or cookies to store your content. Files you process are held in the browser's memory while the page is open; they are not written to any persistent browser storage. Closing or reloading the page discards them.
8. Children's privacy
HohoTools is a general-audience tool site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the tools receive no data at all, and our analytics is anonymous and aggregate, we have no way to identify any visitor, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through other channels (such as email), contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal data — for example access, correction, deletion, restriction of or objection to processing, data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (under the EU/EEA GDPR, UK GDPR, California's CCPA/CPRA, and similar laws).
At HohoTools these rights are lightweight in practice:
- There is no account and no profile, so there is nothing to export, correct or delete on our side.
- We hold no copy of your files — they exist only on your device, so no one but you can access, hand over or delete them.
- The only data connected to your visit is anonymous aggregate analytics, plus — if you interact with ads — data held by Google and its partners. To exercise rights over advertising data, use Google's Ads Settings (section 5) or email us and we will point you to the right place.
To make a request, contact us (section 14). Where the GDPR applies, we respond within one month.
10. Data retention
- Your files: never received; nothing retained.
- Analytics: aggregate statistics only, retained according to the provider's standard practice.
- Technical request data: processed by Cloudflare under its own retention and security practices.
11. International transfers
Our hosting — and, where enabled, analytics and advertising providers — operate globally, so data may be processed in countries other than yours, including the United States. Because we collect almost no personal data, cross-border transfers mainly concern the providers' own operations; those providers maintain their own international data-transfer safeguards (for example, Cloudflare's and Google's transfer frameworks for EU data).
12. Copyright and complaints (including DMCA)
If you believe content on this website infringes your copyright or other rights, email us (section 14) with the subject line "Copyright". If you are a rights holder or an authorized agent, please include: identification of the work you believe is infringed; the URL of the material on this site; your contact information; a statement of your good-faith belief; a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act; and your signature.
We respond to valid notices by removing or disabling access to the material, and we may notify the affected party. If your content was removed and you believe this was a mistake, reply explaining why and we will review it. For other complaints, the same address works.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example when we enable advertising or change analytics providers. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version, and we will highlight material changes on the site. One thing we do not expect to change — and would tell you loudly if it did — is this: your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded.
