Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No converter can restore detail already lost by JPG compression, but the resulting PNG is lossless from that point on: further edits and re-saves will not degrade it any further.
Why is the PNG file larger than the original JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression, which stores every pixel faithfully. That costs more space than JPG’s lossy format, especially for photographs. If file size matters, keep the JPG or use our image compressor.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API. Your file is processed on your own device and never transmitted to any server.
Does the converter handle phone photos taken sideways?
Yes. EXIF orientation data is read before decoding, so the PNG comes out the same way up as you saw it in your camera roll.

About this tool
Need a PNG from a JPG? This free converter turns any JPEG photo or screenshot into a clean PNG file in seconds, right inside your browser. PNG uses lossless compression, so converting from JPG gives you a stable master copy that survives repeated editing, re-saving and sharing without any further quality loss — ideal for images you plan to annotate, crop or reuse in documents and slide decks. The converter also corrects EXIF orientation automatically, so phone photos come out upright instead of sideways. There is nothing to install and no account to create: drop your file, and the converted PNG appears instantly with a live preview. Everything runs locally on your own device — your photos are processed by your browser and never uploaded to any server, so private pictures, client assets and unreleased material stay completely offline. When you are done, download the PNG or continue with our image compressor or resizer.
